Christmas assembly : The Annunciation

This is a plan for a Christmas assembly on the Annunciation (when Mary was visited by the Angel Gabriel), with a focus on promises and trust. There is an attached PowerPoint with the assembly starter and the story of the Annunciation. The plan is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. So this assembly involves the children discussing promises made by various people in their lives before listening to the story and again discussing. There is a lot of opportunity for children to think about their own experiences and to feedback. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with. All resources needed for the assembly are included. They are in the zip file. These are: 4 page PDF assembly plan 24 slide animated PowerPoint (This is not editable. Click ‘Read Only’ to open. Black History Month Assembly - October

This resource includes an assembly plan and 16 slide PowerPoint for Black History Month in October. It is suitable to use with KS2 or secondary aged children. The slideshow gives the opportunity to discuss why we might focus on black history for a month. It covers prehistory, ancient civilizations and 18th and 19th century Britain. There are 6 slides which outline key achievements of 6 different people of African or Caribbean descent, who have achieved great things in the past few centuries from Nelson Mandela to Mo Farah. (Please note no photos of the people are included owing to copyright restrictions). The plan gives details about how to use the slideshow. I like to lead assemblies that are interactive and relevant to the children’s lives, so the plan gives plenty of opportunities for children to discuss ideas, give feedback and reflect.

The Good Samaritan assembly

This is a plan for an assembly on differences. It is easy to follow and requires no resources, so is perfect for using at the last minute! I like leading assemblies that are interactive, engaging and relevant to the children’s lives. This assembly uses a school scenario similar to the story of The Good Samaritan. It involves asking for volunteers during the assembly to do some easy acting, something I always find maintains the whole school’s interest. It concludes with a discussion of Jesus’ parable of The Good Samaritan, which I would tell in just a few sentences, though you can use the link to a clip or read from the Bible. There is also an example prayer/reflection to finish with.
